The Riddle Of Steel

The Fallen Empire had made it to TL4.

There are some artifacts left over from it, carefully preserved.

Mostly weapons and armor.

TL3 and TL4 stuff is available at x4 and x8 pricing respectively if you're TL1.  And it's even more expensive because the items that have survived tend to be fine and very fine quality (they were originally saved because they were excellent examples).

So a steel broadsword should be $8,000 (TL3 and fine quality) and it's likely to also have other desirable enhancements from Low Tech p. 59.  Ornate being the most common.

A TL4 Edged Rapier $32,000 for a fine example.  Harder to justify unless you're of a social standing to have learned the fencing that would certainly have been preserved along with such an heirloom.

Getting a steel sword is worth the effort because any iron or bronze weapon standing against it is treated as cheap, regardless of its quality.

It might even be worth the $1,000 a TL2 iron broadsword will cost a TL1 person because it, in turn treats the very common bronze weapons as cheap.

Even enchanted blades surface from time to time.
